🌏 Beyond Culture: Coaching at the Level of Values
For years, we’ve relied on cross-cultural coaching to help people work across borders. It’s been valuable. But it also has limits.
It assumes that conflict or misunderstanding is primarily cultural — about nationality, ethnicity, or regional norms. But in my 20+ years working across China, Korea, and the U.S., I’ve seen something deeper at play:
✨ The real tension often comes not from cultural difference, but from values difference.
And values are personal, not just cultural.
Even people from the same country, same company, even the same family — can misunderstand each other if they’re driven by different things.
– One values harmony, the other clarity.
– One values speed, the other process.
– One needs autonomy, the other needs collaboration.
This is why I’ve shifted my work from “cross-cultural” to cross-value coaching.
🧭 I help individuals and teams:
-
Identify the values driving their decisions and behaviors
-
Map intrinsic motivations using AI-powered tools
-
Align their actions and communication around what truly matters
It’s not just about understanding each other’s culture — it’s about seeing what makes each of us human.
If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to lead or connect across assumed “cultural” lines…
Try going deeper. Try starting with values.
